About the Chartership
The Chartered Engineering Technologist and Technician is a certification scheme that provides professional recognition for engineering technologists and technicians to enhance their career progression opportunities.
Chartered Engineering Technologist and Technician Accreditation Board (CETTAB) is formed to oversee the certification scheme. This is a multi-stakeholder organisation led by IES which constitutes members from the relevant government agencies, non-government organisations, industry and business community. The scheme aims to support broader sector-focused strategies in the Industry Transformation Maps to enhance Singapore’s economic competitiveness. It also supports the Skills Framework in promoting recognition of mastery in technical competencies and fostering a culture of lifelong learning.
This is one of the key pillars in IES to build an inclusive engineering community where a practising engineering technologist or technician can aspire to become a Chartered Engineer, progressing through the academic and/or the non-academic pathway.
Milestones of the Chartership
National Engineering Career Progression Pathway for Technologist and Technician was announced at the National Engineers Day 2019 Prize Presentation Ceremony in the presence of Minister for Education, Mr. Ong Ye Kung. A memorandum of understanding was signed with more than 20 partners to pledge their commitment and support.
A Steering Committee was formed to oversee the development of the National Engineering Career Progression Pathway for Technologist and Technician. Five industry sectors namely Aerospace, Built Environment, Land Transport, Precision Engineering and Water & Environmental were identified to pilot the certification scheme and to develop sector-specific technical skills-based competency assessments with reference to Skills Framework. In this process, more than 40 industry partners, government agencies, associations and Institutes of Higher Learnings were involved and had contributed to the framework and certification scheme thus far.
